Training Outlines
Introduction
Steel and composite structures achieve efficient long spans and rapid construction, but their performance depends on stability, connection behaviour, fabrication tolerances and the reliable transfer of force between materials. These issues must be resolved across analysis, design and detailing.
This five-day course equips structural and civil engineers to design steel members, connections and composite floor systems. Participants will assess strength, buckling, second-order response, composite action, serviceability and robustness. Practical workshops connect calculations with erection, fire protection, durability and fabrication-ready documentation.
Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Characterise structural-steel behaviour.
- Design tension and compression members.
- Evaluate beams and beam-columns.
- Assess global and local stability.
- Design bolted and welded connections.
- Apply steel-concrete composite action.
- Address serviceability and durability.
- Produce constructible structural details.
