Introduction
Coastal and port infrastructure operates within a dynamic environment shaped by waves, tides, currents and sediment transport. Engineering decisions must balance navigation, structural performance, shoreline response, operability and environmental constraints over a long service life.
This five-day course gives civil, marine and port professionals a rigorous foundation in coastal processes and infrastructure. Participants will analyse metocean conditions, plan harbour layouts, assess breakwaters and berthing structures, and examine dredging and resilience. Workshops culminate in a concept design for a practical port or coastal intervention.
Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Interpret coastal metocean conditions.
- Analyse wave transformation and forces.
- Evaluate sediment and shoreline response.
- Plan harbour and channel layouts.
- Select coastal-protection structures.
- Assess berthing and mooring facilities.
- Plan dredging and sediment management.
- Develop a resilient coastal concept.
