Introduction
Dams and reservoirs combine geotechnical, structural, hydraulic and operational systems whose failure consequences can be severe. Sound engineering begins with appropriate site and dam-type selection, then continues through seepage control, stability, flood handling and long-term surveillance.
This five-day course equips civil, water and dam professionals with practical design and safety principles. Participants will compare embankment and concrete dams, assess foundations, loads and seepage, and evaluate spillways, outlets and reservoir operation. Case exercises culminate in an integrated dam concept and monitoring plan.
