Introduction
Power electronic converters form the controllable interface between energy sources, storage devices, electrical machines and modern grids. Their design influences efficiency, harmonic performance, dynamic response, protection and equipment lifetime across a wide range of energy applications.
This course develops practical understanding of converter devices, topologies and control. Participants will analyse rectifiers, inverters and DC converters, design filtering and thermal solutions, and apply converter technology to renewables, storage, drives and grid-support functions.

Day 2: AC-DC and DC-DC Conversion
- Single- and three-phase rectifiers
- Controlled rectification and commutation
- Buck, boost and buck-boost converters
- Isolated converter principles
- Continuous and discontinuous conduction
- DC-converter design calculations
Day 3: Inverters and Converter Control
- Voltage- and current-source inverters
- Sinusoidal and space-vector modulation
- Multilevel converter topologies
- Current and voltage control loops
- Digital control and sampling considerations
- Dynamic simulation and tuning
Day 4: Grid Connection and Power Quality
- Grid synchronisation and phase locking
- L, LC and LCL filter design
- Harmonics, resonance and damping
- Power-factor and reactive-power control
- Ride-through and grid-support functions
- Protection and anti-islanding requirements
Day 5: Energy-System Applications and Reliability
