Training Outlines
Introduction
High-performance power converters require control systems that remain stable across operating points, grid strengths and switching constraints. Conventional loops provide a foundation, but demanding applications increasingly rely on decoupling, predictive, nonlinear and grid-forming techniques.
This advanced course develops converter-control design from dynamic models through digital implementation. Participants will derive control plants, tune cascaded loops, compare modern algorithms, address weak-grid interactions and validate robustness using simulation and frequency-domain evidence.

Day 3: Predictive and Nonlinear Methods
- Finite-control-set model predictive control
- Continuous-control-set predictive methods

- Sliding-mode control principles
- Observer and estimator design
- Algorithm comparison and trade-offs
Day 4: Grid-Connected and Grid-Forming Control
- PLL dynamics and synchronisation
- Active and reactive power control
- Virtual impedance and droop
- Grid-forming voltage-source behaviour
- Weak-grid and resonance interactions
- Fault ride-through and current limiting
Day 5: Digital Implementation and Robustness
- Sampling, delay and discretisation
