Microgrid Design and Control Strategies Course
Design grid-connected and islanded microgrids using load studies, DER and storage sizing, hierarchical control, protection and resilience engineering.
Training Outlines
Introduction
Microgrids coordinate local generation, storage and controllable loads to operate with the utility grid or independently during disturbances. Their performance depends on integrated electrical design, stable controls, protection adaptability and clearly defined operating transitions.
This course develops a complete microgrid engineering workflow. Participants will characterise loads, size distributed resources, design primary and supervisory controls, coordinate grid-connected and islanded protection, and evaluate resilience, economics and commissioning requirements.
Objectives
- Define microgrid boundaries and operating objectives
- Model critical and flexible load requirements
- Size distributed generation and storage resources
- Apply primary, secondary and tertiary control
- Manage grid-connected and islanded transitions
- Coordinate protection across changing fault levels
- Evaluate resilience and lifecycle economics
- Develop testing and commissioning procedures
