Training Outlines
Introduction
Geotechnical engineering manages uncertainty in materials that are variable, anisotropic and influenced by stress history and groundwater. Reliable foundation decisions depend on an adequate ground model, representative parameters, appropriate failure and serviceability checks, and construction observations that confirm or challenge design assumptions.
This five-day course follows the geotechnical process from investigation planning to verified construction. Participants interpret field and laboratory evidence, assess bearing capacity and settlement, compare shallow and deep foundations, and examine excavations, retaining systems, dewatering and ground improvement. Risk registers, monitoring and observational methods connect analytical design with actual ground response.
Objectives
- Plan a risk-based ground investigation.
- Develop a defensible geological ground model.
- Interpret soil and rock parameters.
- Assess bearing capacity and settlement.
- Select shallow or deep foundation systems.
- Evaluate excavation and retaining solutions.
- Compare ground-improvement and dewatering methods.
- Plan geotechnical monitoring and verification.
