Electrical Power Generation Technologies and Methods Course
Compare conventional, nuclear, hydro and renewable generation technologies using performance, flexibility, cost, emissions and grid-integration criteria.
Training Outlines
Introduction
Power-generation portfolios must balance reliability, flexibility, efficiency, affordability and environmental performance. Technology decisions increasingly require engineers to compare conventional plants with variable renewables, storage-enabled resources and emerging low-carbon options.
This course examines the operating principles, performance characteristics and selection criteria of major generation technologies. Participants will evaluate plant efficiency, flexibility, lifecycle economics, environmental impacts and integration requirements within modern power systems.
Objectives
- Explain energy-conversion principles across generation technologies
- Evaluate thermal-plant efficiency and operating performance
- Compare hydroelectric and nuclear generation characteristics
- Assess wind, solar and other renewable technologies
- Analyse flexibility, ramping and ancillary-service capability
- Estimate lifecycle cost and capacity-factor implications
- Evaluate emissions, water and environmental constraints
- Select generation portfolios for defined system requirements
