Electrical Machines Design and Performance Course
Design and evaluate transformers, induction, synchronous and permanent-magnet machines using electromagnetic, thermal and performance engineering methods.
Training Outlines
Introduction
Electrical-machine performance emerges from the interaction of magnetic loading, electric loading, geometry, insulation, cooling and mechanical constraints. Effective design requires engineers to translate application duties into electromagnetic dimensions while controlling losses, temperature rise, vibration and lifecycle reliability.
This course develops a systematic approach to machine design and evaluation. Participants will model magnetic circuits, assess transformer and rotating-machine characteristics, calculate losses and thermal limits, interpret tests and identify design changes that improve efficiency and performance.
Objectives
- Apply magnetic-circuit principles to machine design
- Relate electrical loading to key dimensions
- Evaluate transformer design and performance
- Analyse induction and synchronous machines
- Assess permanent-magnet machine configurations
- Calculate losses, efficiency and thermal limits
- Interpret machine tests and performance curves
- Identify design improvements for reliability and efficiency
