Introduction
Earthquake-resistant design accepts that structures may enter the inelastic range during severe shaking. Safety therefore depends on controlled load paths, ductile mechanisms, deformation capacity, redundancy and detailing that prevents brittle failure—not simply on increasing member strength.
This five-day course connects seismic hazard and structural dynamics with practical system selection, analysis and detailing. Participants interpret response spectra, evaluate irregularity and drift, apply capacity-design concepts and consider soil, foundations and nonstructural components. Performance objectives and analytical limitations support defensible design decisions.
