Introduction

This course develops the technical and management competence required for an effective personal protective equipment programme. Participants connect hazard assessment and control limitations with equipment selection, compatibility, fit, use, inspection, maintenance, procurement, training and performance assurance.

Objectives

Determine when PPE is necessary within the hierarchy of control.
Translate hazard and exposure assessments into PPE specifications.
Select compatible head, eye, face, hearing, hand and foot protection.
Evaluate protective clothing, fall protection and respiratory equipment.
Assess fit, comfort, human factors and task compatibility.
Establish inspection, cleaning, storage and replacement requirements.
Design effective PPE training and user-verification processes.
Audit procurement, issue, maintenance and programme performance.
