Introduction
Computer vision enables organisations to inspect products, interpret scenes, recognise objects and analyse images at operational scale. Successful applications depend on more than model accuracy: camera conditions, annotation quality, rare events, spatial errors and deployment hardware all influence whether a system performs reliably outside the laboratory.
This five-day course develops practical competence in image recognition and computer-vision solution design. Participants will work with image processing, convolutional networks, detection, segmentation and transfer learning; evaluate models using task-specific measures; and plan edge or cloud deployment. Applied exercises connect technical methods to realistic inspection, recognition and monitoring requirements.
Objectives
By the end of this course, participants will be able to:
- Formulate classification, detection and segmentation problems.
- Design representative visual datasets and annotations.
- Apply image processing and convolutional networks.
- Build recognition, detection and segmentation workflows.
- Use transfer learning and valid augmentation.
- Evaluate accuracy, robustness and spatial performance.
- Plan efficient edge or cloud inference.
- Address privacy, safety and human oversight.
